Goldene Kaefig, Der (Gli amanti sposi)

Komische Oper in drei Akten, Text von Giovacchino Forzano, Deutscher Text von Frank Rau

Composer: Wolf-Ferrari, Ermanno 1876 - 1948

Version: Original

During the First World War, Wolf-Ferrari was forced to abandon Munich and relocate to Zurich, where he wrote little. The one major work he did compose was the comedy Gli amanti sposi (1916; originally begun in 1904). The opera, which opened in Venice in 1925, was based on a play by Carlo Goldoni, Il Ventaglio (The Fan). Gli amanti sposi is the third of five operas for which Wolf-Ferrari adapted Goldoni’s work.
