The first play Molnár wrote after the First World War is an elegant satire on the ‘affaires de coeur’ of the minor nobility of Central Europe, where the proud and lovely swan Alexandra, not knowing which emotional reaction to the young tutor is her real one, is saved from becoming a goose by her wise and compassionate uncle, who may have taken holy orders but is still fully in touch with the frailties of humanity.
After the French première of this beguiling comedy, Molnár was awarded the Legion of Honour.
