Molnár’s first theatrical success, The Lawyer is a fast-paced comedy from 1902 with a plot-line whose twists and turns are more like hairpin bends, while pricking bubbles of ambition and self-importance on the way.
Mr Sarkany, the lawyer, is too successful and clever for his own good and needs taking down a peg. He is not nearly as smart as his client Puzser, the burglar, who robs his house and then impersonates him and gets the real Mr. Sarkany dragged off to prison for a night while going to a college reunion in his place, where he steals several gold watches!
