Composer: Kalman, Emmerich 1882 - 1953

Version: Original

Ein Herbstmanover (1909) is the German version of Kálmán’s first operetta, Tatárjárás (1908). The operetta proved so popular that Kálmán was prompted to move to Vienna from Hungary. SYNOPSIS: Beginning of the twentieth-century. At the castle of the widow Baroness Risa, she is preparing to welcome the Hussars of the Fourteenth and Eighteenth Regiments, who will be staying on her property during their autumn exercises. One of the soldiers, she discovers, is First Lieutenant von Lörenthy, whom she abandoned to marry another. On his arrival, he refuses to stay in Risa’s home, and they have a bitter exchange, before reconciling. When the military exercises go badly, von Lörenthy proposes to Treszka, the Field-Marshall’s daughter, in order to escape punishment. Eventually, Treszka announces she is too young for von Lörenthy, and that Risa is the wife for him.
