Mein ganzes Herz
31 January 2014
Darling of the operatic stage, Piotr Beczala, is one of todays artists who is putting a real focus on operetta as part of his everyday repertoire. This recent release from DG, Mein ganzes Herz, is a disc of music by Kálmán, Stolz, Sieczynski, Romberg, Erwin and, of course, Lehar - a disc of arias made famous by Richard Tauber. In the promotional material and CD booklet, Beczala has modelled himself on the great Tauber, including the use of one of his trademark items - a monocle! The DG press release says:
PIOTR BECZALA’S “HEART’S DELIGHT” GOES GOLD ON DAY OF RELEASE
Tenor Piotr Beczala’s first solo project as an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist has gone Gold in his native Poland on the first day of its release.
Heart’s Delight, is a tribute to Beczala’s musical hero, the legendary Richard Tauber. The disc includes a track in which Beczala is heard in duet with Tauber in “Du bist die Welt für mich” (“You are the world for me”).
The French magazine Diapason honoured the album with its prestigious Diapason d’or award and Australia’s Limelight magazine gave the disc a rave review, saying: “Piotr Beczala is as near perfect a guide in this repertoire as you could hope for … Beczala is stylistically spot-on, never crossing the boundary from homage to parody … if, like me, you are a fan of Richard Tauber, or if you just want to hear the best tenor since Nicola Geddai in this repertoire, you really must buy the album.”
