Hough on Hyperion
21 July 2015
Two recent CDs on the Hyperion label have brought the compositional skills of Stephen Hough to the listening public. The Missa Mirabilis and the Sonata for Cello and Piano (Left Hand) - Les Adieux are the two works in question here.
The orchestral version of Hough’s Missa Mirabilis received performances by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of the orchestra’s chief conductor, Andrew Litton last year. The reviews are favourable for both the work and the performance, whilst the Cello Sonata receives no less favourable words from the critics. Both of these performances are in the most capable of hands and have been recorded with the warmth and clarity that we have come to expect from Hyperion.
